KWAITO lovers in Bulawayo will roll back the years when South Africa based dee jay Oscar 'Oskido' Mdlongwa leads an impressive line-up of Kwaito legends to the city for the annual Kalawa Jazzmee Homecoming Party.

The show which has become a permanent fixture in the city's entertainment calendar, is back again, and promises to be the biggest show in the city for this year.

Come 27 December, Queens Sport Club is expected to reverberate to the sound of the unmistakable kwaito beat that dominated the airwaves both in Zimbabwe and South Africa for the past two decades.

The show will be a special one for Oskido and his formidable crew, who celebrate 20 years of the music movement which locates its humble beginnings to South Africa's attainment of independence in 1994.

The theme of the show is "20 years of Kwaito Celebration".

The young generation who grew up during in the last two decades and make up the bulk of people who have attended the previous editions of the show, will be eager to see live on stage, Kwaito legends such as Mduduzi "Mdu" Masilela, Mandoza, Bonginkosi "Zola" Dlamini, Alaska, Jah Seed of Bongo Maffin and Sipho "Brickz" Ndlovu.

Other artists who will feature include, Uhuru, Zimbabwean-born songstress Berita Khumalo, Character and new Kwaito outfit Stiff.

The local contingent will include House music outfit, Defined House, Kwabatsha Generalz, Djs Sbago, Scooby and Skaiva.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, local promoter Vusumuzi Siqalaba said preparations for the mega event were now at an advanced stage.

"In terms of logistics, everything is in place, we are only working on final touches in the venue of the show. All relevant stakeholders have been notified.

"All the artists coming from South Africa have been cleared by the relevant authorities," said Siqalaba.

Part of the bill ... Kwaito great Mandoza

Mosty revellers have described the show as an event for the older generation mainly because of the bulk of artists belonging to the old school, which is slowly losing its relevance to the House music movement.

"We have tried to balance the show by bringing in groups like Uhuru, Oskido who is still relevant, Berita Khumalo and the upcoming local acts like Skaiva and Defined House, so that we balance the equation," Siqalaba said.
