ZIMBABWEAN stand-up comedian, Carl Joshua Ncube, has been nominated for the prestigious South African Comics' Choice awards.

The awards, in their fifth year, will be held in Johannesburg in August.

The award-winning Ncube, who has held several shows in South Africa, is up for the Audience Choice Comic award.

The winner is voted for by the public through a short message service (sms) platform.

To vote for the comedian you enter Ncube unique number, 2494, and send it to 45757 for South African numbers only. Voting closes at the end of the month.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com Ncube said he was delighted to have been nominated for an award.

"It is just awesome to be considered amongst hundreds of other awesome comics in South Africa," he said.

The professional rib cracker, who has become a household name on the local comedy scene, said the continued recognition of Zimbabwean comedians beyond the country's borders was testament to the growth of the local industry.

Ncube has since taken to his social media platforms to canvass for votes amongst his South African-based fans.

Nine Waldo Statuettes are up for grabs this year, with three more categories having been added.

The categories are Newcomer comic, Intermediate Comic, The Comic's Pen, Comic of the Year, Lifetime Achiever, Audience Choice Comic, Non-English Comic, Best Friend of Comedy and The Flying Solo Comic.

Ncube burst into the comedy scene at the end of 2010 with his debut one man show, Carl Joshua Ncube's Big Announcement, which he took around the country.

He has since performed in some of the country's biggest comedy stages including the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA), Shoko Festival and several arts festivals around the country.

He has also performed in countries like South Africa, Zambia, Nigeria, Botswana, USA and, most recently, Australia where he shared the stage with Basketmouth of Nigeria.

In 2013 he won the National Art Merit Award (NAMA) for Outstanding Comedian and in 2015 he picked the NAMA Arts Personality Award.
