CHIMURENGA legend Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo arrived in the UK Tuesday for this weekend’s 36th Zimbabwe independence anniversary show.

The US-based Mukanya will be joined for the Chimurenga Bira Festival by Raymond Majongwe and Steve ‘Dhongi’ Makoni.

The show will be held at Corah Suite in Leicester on Saturday with red-hot DJs King Alfred and Tee Mag making up the supporting cast.

Mukanya comes to the UK after headlining the Africa Salon Concert at College Street Music Hall in New Haven in Connecticut at the beginning of the month.

“The Lion of Zimbabwe” was joined by two rising stars of contemporary African music: Ghanaian-American hip hop and visual artist Blitz the Ambassador, favored in the New York City African music scene and beyond for his Afrobeat-infused rap, and Kenyan songstress Wambura Mitaruwho through her blend of traditional African sounds and upbeat soul inherits the legacy of singer-songwriters like Somi and Angélique Kidjo.
