A ZIMBABWE Broadcasting Company (ZBC) news anchor and radio presenter Buttler Nhepure has been dragged to court on allegations for fleeing an accident scene after he allegedly hit a pedestrian with his vehicle.

Nhepure is facing two charges of failing to stop after an accident as well as negligent driving. He is out of custody on $50 bail.

According to prosecutors the incident allegedly occurred on 23 October last year as Nhepure was driving along Hurworths Road due South.

The complainant Gerald Gumbo was also walking along the same road in the same direction.

When Nhepure arrived at the intersection of Hurworths and Enterprise road he started reversing his vehicle then hit Gumbo on his right hip.

Court heard Gumbo fell down but upon realising that he hit a pedestrian Nhepure sped away from the scene.

Gumbo, who was lying down, managed to get Nhepure’s vehicle registration number as well as its colour.

The case was then reported to the police and Nhepure was arrested after the cops checked with the Central Vehicle Registry.

Devoted Nyagano Gwashavanhu appeared for the state.
