THE first ever radio station for Victoria Falls finally went live on Friday morning after getting clearance from government.

Three weeks ago, Fairtalk Communications chief executive Qhubani Moyo had said they were ready to go live and only awaiting clearance from government to access Chisuma and Chidobe base stations which are regarded as security zones as they affect Victoria Falls International
Airport.

On Friday morning Victoria Falls residents woke up to the ‘good news’ that their only station was live, after weeks of broadcasting pre-recorded programmes.

The station is available on 91.2 FM in English as well as in local languages-Nambya, Tonga and Ndebele while some programmes will also be in Shona.

It’s expected to cover a transmission radius of 40km, signaling the entrance of local programming for the resort town and surrounding communities which have over the years been exposed to foreign stations from Zambia and Botswana.

Station manager Mgcini Moyo said they were ready to churn out programming that promotes Victoria Falls talent.

“We are finally on air after being cleared to access Chisuma Base Station and Chidobe Transmission sites.

“Our listeners can get us on 91.2 FM and on livestreaming via shout cast server using the link
www.listen.shoutcast.com/BreezeFM ,” said Moyo.

Breeze FM is a sister station to Skys Metro FM, both initiatives of veteran arts guru Cont Mhlanga through Fairtalk Communications.

The station will likely be welcomed by Victoria Falls artists who have complained about lack of airplay on national radio stations as they play second fiddle to their counterparts from Harare and Bulawayo.

Residents were also overjoyed. “I can’t hide my excitement and we hope the station will live to our expectations and give us a voice on issues affecting us as residents,” said Sibongile Mathe of Mkhosana suburb.
