PROMINENT musician, Sulumani Chimbetu, who was earlier this week dragged to the court after failing to pay maintenance, was Friday removed from remand after his ex-wife withdrew charges against him.

Marygold Rutendo Mutemasango confirmed that Chimbetu had cleared the outstanding arrears after he paid the total amount of $1 600 for January and February this year.

Chimbetu, 35, appeared before magistrate Joy Chikodzore.

According to the state, Chimbetu was ordered by Harare civil court to pay $800 per month for his two minor sons.

Court heard he failed to pay since the beginning of this year and was not cooperative when Mutemasango confronted him over the issue.

He had, however, denied the allegations when he initially appeared in court.

His trial was scheduled for the 25th of March.

Devoted Nyagano Gwashavanhu appeared for the state.
