HARARE: David Mungoshi, who was recently honoured with continental award for his contribution to the development of African Literature, says the accolades have spurred his creativity.

The writer was awarded the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) Patron of the Arts Award and the PAWA Honorary Membership Award.

“For me as for all artists, recognition in whatever guise it comes is always more than welcome,” Mungoshi told NewZimbabwe.com

“So, I am quite excited as you can imagine. Perhaps the greatest dividend and windfall from this award is how it has begun to accelerate my creative urges once again.

“I expect I shall be releasing more works as the days go by.”

Mungoshi said he would soon be working with new talents and dedicated the awards to all artists in Zimbabwe as well as all the citizens of this beautiful country.

“As for the arts sector, since no one is an island, the achievements of a fellow artist enhance us all, just as the demise or misfortune of a fellow artist diminishes us all.

“John Donned the writer of the classic poem For Whom The Bell Tolls got that correct, Zimbabwe you nurtured me, accordingly this is our award together.”

Mungoshi will receive the award together with a number of African writers who will be will be honoured at an awards dinner slated for this November in Accra, Ghana on the side-lines of the  PAWA Continental Colloquium which will run under the theme; “Language, Library and the Book Industry; The Urgent Agenda for Africa’s Destiny”.
