A ZIMBABWEAN rapper is the unlikely star of an English town’s bid to be granted city status.
Bulawayo-born Jasper Dausoni, aka Flava, has recorded a song in aid of his adopted town of Middlesbrough which is one of a number bidding for city status as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations next year.
So pleased were council bosses that they have made the song the soundtrack to their bid after posting it on campaign website

Flava, a law student at Teesside University said: “I thought Middlesbrough was a city already. I was surprised.
“When somebody mentions a town you think of smaller places but somewhere like Middlesbrough is on a different level. You would definitely think it was a city.”
Flava’s rap song ‘Fresh About Boro’ features the lyrics “Big city, bright lights/Trick is never lose sight/Keep the faith and fly beyond the clouds like a lost kite”.
Flava hopes to become a solicitor after his law studies are over but will continue with his love of music.
And he hopes his music will help play its part in achieving city status for Middlesbrough.
“I think that would be the most gratifying feeling,” he said.
