The Truth About: Alick Macheso
THE family of Alick Macheso's third wife has demanded almost US$10,000 for their 21-year-old daughter's hand in marriage.

Macheso married Adeline Hunidzarira at her family's home in Murehwa on Tuesday.

Adeline's family said Macheso was asked to pay US$4,000 for rusambo, US$1,500 for what is known as mafukidza dumbu while Adeline's four aunts got US$400 each. Her father demanded eight herd of cattle valued at about US$2,500 while Adeline asked for US$1,000 during the lobola ceremony.

Macheso also bought groceries worth US$800.

According to Adeline's aunt Emma Hunidzarira, Macheso paid almost half of the lobola.

"He managed to buy all items on the grocery list and pay about half the lobola. He also did not give us anything for the requested cattle," said Hunidzarira.

The aunt also said most key members of the family did not know about the marriage until a few hours before Machesos family comprising his uncle, brother, Nyadzisai his first wife and sisters arrived to pay the lobola.

Macheso did not attend the ceremony as he was said to be busy.

Hunidzarira also revealed that many of the family members were left bewildered since they were never openly told who their new son in- law was.

"She only told us that her husband comes from Malawi and we will see him in due time. Many of us only got to know it was Macheso through grapevine and it was only confirmed when his brother, who looks very well like him, and his other family members turned up," she said.

However, she added that the family was happy that their daughter was married to a famous musician.

But a family friend of the Hunidzariras, Taurai Nyikahuku said he had doubts on whether the marriage would last since some of Adeline's relatives were against it because Macheso already has two other wives.

"From what I saw during the lobola ceremony those people are not in agreement, she seemed as if she did not want to get married at all to Macheso. Do you also know that her sisters once tried to block the marriage, when they took her to Manyame? She does not want Macheso, I doubt very much if that marriage will last," he said.
