BIG Brother Africa got underway on Sunday, but Zimbabwe’s two representatives were immediately put on notice for eviction.
Sisters Teclar and Maneta Mazanhi from Bulawayo were getting familiar with their surroundings when host TK delivered the bad news.
The M-Net TV show is using a new system for nominations this year where nominees are picked at random by machine. Zimbabwe and Tanzania’s numbers came up.
Teclar, 31, could not deal with the thought of going home after a week and she cried herself to sleep.
The actress, who some viewers will recognise from her stint on Studio 263, told fellow housemates she had given up her job to pursue fame and fortune: this year’s winner will pocket US$300,000.
Sister Maneta, 21, a law student, thought it was unfair.
Each of the 14 participating countries have two representatives who entered as pairs, and Big Brother has also added seven celebrity housemates including the Zimbabwean singer, Roki.
But although housemates entered in twos, their fates are not tied: one can be evicted while the other remains, and only one housemate can win the top prize.
