HARARE beauty Melissa Moyo, 19, has won the Miss August crown in the ongoing Gtel Face of Zimbabwe online beauty pageant.

Moyo is the eighth winner of the year and will automatically be entered for the finals set for December 15 at the Harare International Conference Centre.

South Africa-based model, Yeukai Goremusandu, won the Miss July competition.

Melissa, who fended off competition from several other hopefuls, was ecstatic following the announcement, attributing her win to the huge support she received from the voting public.

“A million thanks to all those who voted for me and supported me in the Face Of Zimbabwe competition. Smiling for days!” she said.

Having received the highest public votes, Melissa also got a thumbs up from all five FOZ judges, with USA based singer Cee Jay Besa describing her as “beautiful, ambitious and a go getter”.

Another judge, SA-based model and actor, Melgin Tafirenyika, whose new film ‘I Will Marry Myself’ is due for release this month was impressed with her glamorous looks, describing her as a true example of beauty with brains.

Melissa, who is enrolled to start a Business Studies degree at the University of Zimbabwe spoke of her passion and commitment to charitable causes.

“I strongly acknowledge the importance of lending a hand to the less fortunate within our community, this was instilled in me as a teenager. I’m motivated to set up my own charity to assist those in need,” she said.
