Lucky escape ... Ndux Junior

THE singer Ndux Junior – son of the late Ndux Malax – has told of a lucky escape after being knifed in the thigh during a botched robbery in Johannesburg.

He had just performed at the Safari International Hotel in the tough Hillbrow neighbourhood and was getting home at around 3AM on Sunday when he was confronted by three knife-wielding thugs.

He said: “One of them stabbed me in the thigh and the knife broke in two, leaving a blade stuck inside me. I can’t imagine what could have happened if the knife had not snapped.”

The singer said he thought the men recognised him because they had first told him they enjoyed his music, before trying to rob him.

The thugs appeared to fall-out among themselves after the stabbing before fleeing, leaving Ndux Junior – real name Witness Malaba – bleeding in the street.

He was treated in hospital and discharged to recover at home.

“I feel sorry for them. The wound will heal and I will be stronger for it,” he said.

Ndux Junior has taken over from where his father left off following his death in the 1990s.

He performs in popular Zimbabwean nightclubs in Johannesburg and regularly makes forays into his father’s old stomping ground of Kezi and Plumtree, performing his own music and some of Ndux Malax’s old hits.
