CAPS United have released seven players who went on strike last season, the club said on Wednesday.
The players, who were barred from training on Tuesday and Wednesday, have been named as striker Shingi Kawondera, Tapiwa Khumbuyani, Nqobile Mpala, Luckson Kaisa, Washington Pakamisa, Asani Nhongo and goalkeeper Itai Chiwara.
CAPS United face a cash squeeze after Harare businessman Farai Jere – now eyeing a stake at Motor Action – pulled out of the club following a shareholder row with club president Twine Phiri.
After Jere left, the chief executive officer Max Mironga followed him to the exit.
Former general manager, Joe Makuvire, who joined five United players who “disappeared” in London in 2005 after a match against Highlanders in Bradford, has returned to the club.
Makuvire told reporters on Wednesday that the seven players had been released and were free to join clubs of their choice.
United ended last season 10th - some 30 points behind champions Dynamos.
Coach Mkhuphali Masuku must assemble an almost entirely new team ahead of the season kick-off in March.
