Dynamos 2-0 Black Rhinos
Hwange 0-1 Highlanders

HIGHLANADERS opened a four point lead at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League on Sunday after dismissing Hwange 1-0 at the Colliery.

The former champions have 29 points, four off Dynamos and third placed Harare City who could only manage a 1-1 draw against FC Platinum at Mandava on Saturday.

Chicken Inn moved into fourth with 23 points after seeing off the challenge of Black Mambas 2-0 at Luveve on Saturday.

At the Colliery, Milton Ncube struck the all-important winner in the 44th minute when Njabulo Ncube sashayed past three defenders to feed his fellow attacker who made no mistake from close range to beat veteran goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda.

The match was delayed for 30 minutes after a clash of black shorts and Highlanders being the away team had to change to red, thanks to the benevolence of Hwange veterans.

When the things finally got underway, it was Hwange on top of the situation with David Boriwondo leading the onslaught, but Innocent Mapuranga and Dumisani Ndlovu stood firm.

Njabulo Ncube headed wide in the 11th minute before Ndlovu cleared off the line five minutes later. Milton had a chance on the half hour but hurried his shot.

But he came right on the stroke of halftime, thanks to Njabulo’s brilliance, to silence the Hwange faithful.

The second half failed to produce any goal disappointing the Dynamos faithful who had followed the game closely, wishing for a Hwange equaliser.

Still, DeMbare moved to second position with a laboured 2-0 victory over Black Rhinos in an early kick off at Rufaro Stadium.

Striker Clive Kawinga benefited from a miscommunication between defender and goalkeeper to find the opener in the 38th minute before Patrick Khumbula - making a return to the starting eleven - added the second late in the second half.

Washington Pakamisa then thought he had broken his goal drought in the 76th minute but his effort was ruled out for offside.

At Maglas, the Shabanie and How Mine match was delayed for 15 minutes as the fourth official arrived late at the match venue after the vehicle he was using broke down.

When all was settled, it was time for the Shabanie Mine show as Luke Masomere’s men moved into the top half for the first time this season.

Fungai Chirinda struck for the third time in a row in the 27th minute and Tafadzwa Mombeshora added the second in the 50th minute with a header.
