FC PLATINUM head coach Tennant Chilumba has quit the Castle Premiership side to take charge of Power Dynamos in his native Zambia.

Having arrived in Zimbabwe three years ago, Chilumba spent two years at Hwange guiding them to fourth place in his debut season to land a slot in the Caf Confederation Cup where they reached the second round.

He then quit the coalminers late last season and resurfaced at Platinum in January. He leaves the team in fifth place with 22 points from 13 matches having won six, lost three and drawn four times and seven points below leaders Highlanders.

FC Platinum president George Mawere said in a statement Wednesday: “FC Platinum Football Club advises that it has agreed with immediate effect to release Tenant Chilumba as its first team coach following requests for his services by Power Dynamos of Zambia as well as that country's football authorities where he serves as a member of the national team's technical committee.

“Since joining FC Platinum, Chilumba had become an integral part of the club which he has assisted in ensuring that it remains a competitive top flight team. However, demands for his services by his country's national team have placed an overdue burden on his work schedule and made it impossible to continuously balance his frequent trips with the need to maintain the need for regular presence at the club he dearly loves.

“Tendai Chikuni, who has had a previous stint as coach of the club and was first assistant to Chilumba, will take over as caretaker coach, until a substantive replacement has been found. Management of FC Platinum wishes Tenant Chilumba success at his new team.”

Chilumba replaces Beston Chambeshi who was fired last week, leaving the Kitwe giants in eighth place with 16 points from 11 matches, having won four, lost four and drawn three. They lie 10 points off leaders Nkana Red Devils.
