Pagels warns Warriors of Traore threat

IN-FORM Chicken Inn striker and the PSL leading goal scorer Tendai Ndoro has been recognised for his efforts after being called up to the Warriors squad for the Cosafa Cup tournament in Zambia early next month.

Zimbabwe won the competition in 2009, the last time it was held and will be looking to defend the title as the tournament makes its return.

Warriors coach, Klaus Dieter Pagels, was widely expected to pick Ndoro who has impressed with nine goals in the current league campaign.

The striker was delighted with the call-up and said: “This is the moment I have been waiting for in my career. It’s an honour to play for the national team and it’s great to see that your efforts are being recognisedo.

“I believe I have been on top of my game this season compared to the previous years although I am not yet up there. I know I still need to improve my game and I will use this opportunity to the best of my ability.

“I would like to thank the national team coaches and it’s good that they are casting the nets wide. For players like us to be noticed at a small club like Chicken Inn shows that the coaches are really following the game.”

Caps United veteran goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube-, deemed excess to requirements by FC Platinum, has also been called up following his heroics between the sticks for the Green Machine since joining them at the beginning of the season.

The Warriors coach named a 20-member squad to do duty in Zambia with Ndoro, Dube and Black Rhinos striker Lot Chiunga among the notable new faces.

Pagels however, kept faith in the majority of the players who featured in the friendly matches against Zambia and Malawi two months back.

The regional tournament which features players plying their trade in their domestic leagues kicks off on July and team manager Sharif Mussa said the Warriors would go into camp on July 8 before travelling to Lusaka, on the 11th.

The Warriors will take on Malawi on July 13 in one of the quarter- final ties of the tournament.

The two teams drew 1-1 in an international friendly match in Malawi last month with assistant coach Lloyd Mutasa and Under-23 coach Peter Ndlovu taking charge as Pagels was away in his native Germany attending to family issues.

Zimbabwe will be looking to defend a title they won after beating Zambia 3-1 at Rufaro Stadium in 2009.
