LLOYD Mutasa is the new FC Platinum acting head coach, the premiership club confirmed on Friday.

The Warriors assistant coach and former Dynamos head coach will be in charge until the end of the season as the club continues its search for a substantive coach.

He is expected to take over next week as he finalises his transfer from the Zimbabwe Prison Service (ZPS), where he is currently employed. For Saturday’s match against Black Rhinos at Mandava Stadium, Tendai Chikuni will be in charge.

Club president George Mawere said in a statement on Friday: “In line with its quest to enhance excellence at its Soccer Academy based at Guinea Fowl in Gweru and Under 19 team currently in Central Region's Division One, FC Platinum Football Club, have appointed Lloyd Mutasa as its Talent Development Coach and First Assistant to the Senior team.

“Prior to this appointment, Lloyd Mutasa has had numerous stints as coach of teams in Zimbabwe, Swaziland, and Under 17 and senior national team, where he has won a Number of local and international Tournaments. He continues to serve as Assistant Coach to the national team.

“Over and above his role, Mutasa will also work as Acting Head Coach of FC Platinum until the end of year (2013). He will be assisted in that role by Tendai Chikuni as his First Assistant.

“FC Platinum wishes Lloyd success in this new role and looks forward to working with him to ensure that the club develops grassroots talent and remains a competitive top flight premier club in Zimbabwe.

“We believe Mutasa has the pedigree to shape our development structures in line with our vision of being a key feeder of talent into various national teams.”

Mutasa replaces Tennant Chilumba who quit the Castle Premiership side early this month to take charge of Power Dynamos in his native Zambia.

FC Platinum said they allowed Chilumba to leave following a request by Power Dynamos as well as Zambia’s football authorities since he also serves as a member of the national team's technical committee.

The Zambian joined Platinum in January after leaving Hwange where he spent two years, guiding the coal miners to fourth place in his debut season and a slot in the Caf Confederation Cup where they reached the second round.
