Shabanie Mine 1-2 Chicken Inn

CHICKEN Inn upped the pressure on Highlanders with a come from behind win over Shabanie Mine in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane on Sunday.

That they have collected six points from their last two matches speaks volumes of a team that started the season by winning the Net One Charity Shield and their title ambitions.

Last Wednesday they beat Highlanders 1-0 at Barbourfields and with the former champions losing 2-1 to Caps United on Saturday, Chicken Inn took the chance to take their points tally to 29 points, the same as Highlanders but on an inferior goal difference.

With Harare City receiving a 4-1 hammering from Hwange at the Colliery on Sunday, it was up to Mandla Mpofu’s side to win the Maglas tie.

And they did that in style after Shabanie had gone ahead on the 10th minute via a penalty from Pervington Zimunya.

But seven minutes later, they were level when Tendai Ndoro-called up to the Cosafa Castle Cup squad last week, notched his tenth goal of the season.

Ndoro them turned provider in the 67th minute feeding Cannan Nkomo who turned brilliantly inside the box to beat goalkeeper Victor Twaliki.

But they were down to 10 men in the 84th minute when Thabani Goredema was sent off for a second bookable offence but they held on for a crucial win.

At the Colliery, Hwange delivered a stunning blow to Harare City’s championship credentials with a 4-1 hammering at the Colliery.

After getting the better of Monomotapa 3-1 on Thursday, City were expected to have no problems in dispatching Hwange, who had lost their last two matches to Highlanders (1-0 at home) and Caps United 2-0 away.

Hwange veteran Gilbert Zulu opened the floodlights as early as the fifth minute when he headed home an Eric Chipeta cross from the right.

But they had to wait until the 43rd minute to increase their lead via a Gerald Ndlovu penalty.

City fought back with former FC Platinum striker William Manondo halving the deficit on the hour but Hwange responded in perfect fashion with Phakamani Dube netting the third in the 66th minute.

When City’s Osbourne Mukuradare, with eight goals this season, missed a penalty, Zulu finished them off with the fourth goal.

Hwange are now in 11th place with 17 points from 15 games while City dropped from second to fourth place but with 28 points, the same as Dynamos, but one less than both Highlanders and Chicken Inn.
