HIGHLANDERS goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya was the hero for the Bulawayo giants as they reached the Mbada Diamonds Cup final after beating Harare City 5-3 on a penalty shootout on Saturday.

The match at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane, had ended 2 2 after 94 minute of play.

Silas Songani opened the scoring in the 12th minute for City from a free kick before Bheki Ncube bundled home from inside the box four minutes later.

City then went ahead from a long range shot in the 27th minute from Crybert Muluti.

When Simo Munawa was brought down in the box on the half hour, Diya took the honours to beat his opposite number Max Nyamunenndengu.

Diya then scored the winner in the penalty shootout to cap a fine man of the match performance. Highlanders converted all their spot kicks through Mthulisi Maphosa, Bheki Ncube, who had also scored in normal time, evergreen Bruce Kangwa Njabulo Ncube and Diya.

David Kutyauripo missed for City while James Jam, William Kalongonga and Crispen Dickson scored for City.

Highlanders will now play the winner between Caps United and How Mine who meet at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

This is the first time that Highlanders have reached the final of the richest domestic competition after being knocked out in the first round in the last two seasons.
