Chunga's Gunners on the verge of history

GUNNERS are 90 minutes away from being crowned Premier Soccer League champions.

Moses Chunga’s men will lift the league title if they beat their closest rivals Dynamos on Sunday in one of the most dramatic season finales.

Gunners lead Dynamos by two points and victory would give them an unassailable five-point lead with one match to play apiece.

Dynamos play Shooting Stars while Gunners take on Lengthens on the final day of the season.

But Gunners can render the final matches academic by beating their Harare rivals.

Gunners manager Wellington Mupandare is adamant that pressure is on Dynamos, seeking their first title in three years.

“What do we have to lose? Nothing,” said Mupandare. “There is so much on them that they may struggle to play normal football. The fans will be on them.

“For us, we have achieved a lot, we have taken the race right up to the end and that is a good achievement for us.”

Dynamos will miss captain Desmond Maringwa and his deputy Rueben Mhlanga, both through injuries. Former Lancashire Steel defender Brighton Tuwaya will deputise for Maringwa.

Chunga, a Dynamos legend, can rewrite the history books by leading Gunners to the title in only their second season in the top flight.

Dynamos also face three of their former players in agile goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube, midfielder Ramson Zhuwawo and striker Norman Maroto -- all desperate to prove there is life after Dynamos.

Gunners must believe there is a first time for everything as they have never beaten Dynamos. They lost 2-0 earlier this season in the league, and were knocked out of the CBZ FA Cup after losing 5-3 on penalties.

In the league last season, Gunners managed a 1-1 draw but lost the other match 2-1.
