THE Warriors have confirmed an international friendly match against Libya at the National Sports Stadium on January 4.

The match is part of their preparations for the Chan finals to be staged in South Africa from January 11 to February 1.

Zimbabwe are in the same group with Morocco, Uganda and Burkina Faso and will be based in Cape Town.

Said Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela: “The match had been scheduled for Morocco but Libya have indicated they will pass through Harare on their way to South Africa as they have also qualified for the Chan finals.

“The match will be played on January 4 and the Warriors will leave two days later for Johannesburg where they will play Gabon before they go to Cape Town.”

The Warriors broke camp for Christmas Day, but there will be no break for the New Year as they intensify their preparations.

Manager Shariff Mussa said the technical team was happy with the condition of the players after a week of physical training.

The final 23 man squad is expected to be finalised next Tuesday before it is forwarded to Caf.

The squad has been boosted by the arrival of Peter Moyo who had gone for trials at Bidvest Wits in SA, but Silas Songani is attending trials in Denmark.

“Songani was excused by the coach for trials and, should he make the grade, we will have to see what we can do from the material we have,” said Mussa.

“A lot of the players are in demand especially in South Africa and there is nothing we can do about that. We still hope to name the strongest squad.”

Already Tendai Ndoro has joined Mpumalanga Black Aces, goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya and defender Eric Chipeta could sign with Golden Arrows.

Midfielder Devon Chafa is banned by Fifa after failing a drugs test and is out.
