ZIMBABWE international goalkeeper George Chigova is aiming at cementing a starting place at his new club SuperSport United.

The 24-year-old giant goalkeeper left Zimbabwe on Tuesday after signing a three-year contract with the Pretoria club in February following an awe-inspiring performance at the African Nations Championships in January.

But it might not be easy for the former Dynamos goal-minder who will have to tussle for a first choice berth with Ronwen Williams.

“It is sad that I am leaving Dynamos. But the good thing is that SuperSport provides a new challenge for my career,” said Chigova shortly before his departure for Pretoria.

“I am ready for the challenge and my top priority would be breaking into the starting line-up in the team. I know it is not going to be easy for me but I will have to work hard.”

Chigova’s transfer to SuperSport was however the subject of an ownership wrangle between Dynamos and Aces Youth Soccer Academy who groomed him

Aces were claiming transfer rights of the player after Dynamos failed to honour their contractual obligations in his move to the Harare giants.

“We engaged Dynamos and agreed to let him join SuperSport but we will conclude talks in due course. We reached that decision for the best of George’s career,” said Aces founder and director Nigel Munyati.

SuperSport United began their pre-season on Thursday.
