THE English Premier League on Tuesday cleared Benjani Mwaruwari's loan move from Manchester City to Sunderland and the Zimbabwe captain says he is already looking forward to playing for his new club in the weekend league fixture at home to Wigan.

The deal for the Warriors skipper was initially held up after emails and faxes from Sunderland to the Football Association did not go through.

However the Premier League investigated the technical problems and were satisfied that Sunderland had tried to register the deal before Monday's 5pm deadline.

A league spokesman said: "The Premier League confirms that everything was in order and deal done before the transfer window closed."

Meanwhile Benjani told NewZimbabwe.com that he is excited about the move adding he would be joining his new team-mates in training on Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s game against Wigan at the Stadium of Light.

Mwaruwari said he is hoping to do well enough to win a permanent deal with Sunderland adding he would love to stay at the club for at least two more seasons.

Sunderland Chief Executive Steve Walton commended the Premier League for endorsing the deal.

"It has been well documented that we had horrendous problems with our communications network yesterday.

"We sent The Premier League and FA documentation showing the issues, which they reviewed and agreed that everything was in order,” he said.

Sunderland coach Steve Bruce said he was delighted with Benjani’s arrival.

"He's a big, strong, powerful centre forward and one we've been tracking for a long time.

"I'm delighted that we've been able to bring him to the club. He'll bring another dimension to our striking options and will be a great addition to the squad."

The Zimbabwe striker, 31, has become Bruce's 11th signing at Sunderland and will be available on a free transfer this summer when his City contract expires.

Sunderland are just three points off the relegation zone and Benjani will be hoping to help the Black Cats avoid the chop from the top flight league.
