Dispute ... Dynamos without striker Cuthbert Malajila

DYNAMOS launch their latest bid for African honours when they travel to Congolese side FC Lupopo in the first round of the Champions League on Sunday.

Having reached the finals and semi-finals of Africa’s premier club competition, Dynamos are the more seasoned of Zimbabwe’s four representatives in Africa this year.

The action gets underway on Friday with Lengthens hosting Tanzania’s Simba Stars in a first leg, first round tie of the CAF Confederations Cup at Rufaro.

On Saturday, champions Gunners must navigate the threat posed by six time African champions Al Ahly of Egypt. The two sides meet at Rufaro in the first leg of the first round.

On Sunday, Dynamos, who got a preliminary round bye, will meet a Lupopo side boasting no less than FOUR of their ex-players – goalkeeper Ephraim Mazarura, striker Phillip Marufu and midfielders Mtshumayeli Moyo and Carrington Gomba.

The Glamour Boys have been robbed of the services of their star striker Cuthbert Malajila who was forced to stay behind because of a row with the Air Force of Zimbabwe which says it is owed money from the striker’s move from Chapungu.

The Air Force has ordered Dynamos to stop using the player until the row is resolved.

Dynamos will call on veterans of their previous continental campaigns to see them through, led by skipper Desmond Maringwa.

CAPS United, after narrowly squeaking through the preliminary round with victory over Swaziland’s Mbabane Highlanders, host South Africa’s Moroka Swallows in the first round of the Confederations Cup at Rufaro on Sunday.

Swallows, who are sponsored by Volkswagen, have a team that would make the United Nations proud. They have no less than six foreign players in their books -- Zambian international striker Collins Mbesuma, the Brazilian duo of midfielder Igor Alves and David Rancan, Thomas Cichon from Germany, Nigerian goalkeeper Greg Etafia and Allan Thomas from Lebanon.

But United have nothing to fear against the ABSA Cup holders. A Zimbabwe national squad built around United stars won the regional COSAFA Cup last year.

On their day, the likes of goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda, skipper Method Mwanjali and attacking midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike can turn on the style.
