Near miss ... Cuthbert Malajila

INFORMATION and publicity minister Webster Shamu came to the rescue of Dynamos late on Thursday when he directed the Air Force of Zimbabwe to allow striker Cuthbert Malajila to travel to the DRC for Sunday’s African Champions League showdown against FC Lupopo in Kinshasa.

The Dynamos camp was plunged into turmoil on Thursday after Malajila was barred from travelling to the DRC by his employers- the Air Force of Zimbabwe - following a row over the Glamour Boys’ failure to settle outstanding dues related to the player’s loan spell with the Harare giants.

The Air Force of Zimbabwe- through their franchise Chapungu United- own the rights for Malajila and had ordered the striker to walk out of the team until Dynamos settled money owed to Chapungu after they renewed his contract in the off season.

But NewZimbabwe.com learnt that the former Highlanders and Chapungu marksman eventually departed for the DRC on Friday morning a day after the rest of the Dynamos team.

This followed the intervention of minister Shamu who is reported to have told Chapungu that Dynamos were representing the country and should therefore be allowed to use the player for the crucial first round first leg tie.

Dynamos, who brought in a new executive two weeks ago, are operating on a shoe-string budget and have reportedly failed to pay for Highlanders captain Zephania Ngodzo whom they had registered for the African safari this year although Bosso had cleared the player to join their rivals.

Zifa programmes manager Jonathan Musavengana also confirmed that Malajila had finally left for DRC on Friday morning but declined to say whether Shamu had played a part in the issue.
