To lead Warriors Nations Cup charge ... Kallisto Pasuwa

YOUNG Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa has been tasked with leading lead the Warriors for the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers and also taking charge of the Olympic squad by the ZIFA High Performance Committee.

The (HPC) - comprising a panel of experts - met in Harare last night and came up with the resolutions to be submitted to the ZIFA board for approval.

A member of the HPC, who asked for anonymity, said on Wednesday night that the HPC had resolved to settle for Pasuwa after he led Zimbabwe to the All-Africa Games to be held in Congo, Brazzaville in September after beating fancied Cameroon 2-1 on aggregate.

“The HPC has recommended that Kalisto Pasuwa takes charge of both the Young Warriors and the senior team. He will however share responsibilities with Saul Chaminuka,” said the official.

“Chaminuka will be in charge of the team at the Cosafa tournament in South Africa next month while Pasuwa will take charge of the Under-23 African Championship qualifier against Swaziland.”

Pasuwa is the current coach of the Zimbabwe Under-23 with Chaminuka and Nation Dube from Hwange coming in as his assistants while Tembo Chuma is the goalkeepers’ coach.

The HPC is a panel of experts led by ZIFA board member John Phiri and also includes Gibson Homela, who is the vice-chairman, Misheck Chidzambwa, former ZIFA board member Benedict Moyo, and Bhekimpilo Nyoni who is the coaches’ committee chairman.

ZIFA technical director Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, Cosmas “Tsano” Zulu, ZIFA coaches manager Mike Ngore, and Charles "Raw Meat" Sibanda are some of the members of the committee.

Pasuwa who has qualified the Young Warriors to the 2015 African Games in Congo Brazzaville, has already been tasked by ZIFA to select the squad to represent the country at the Cosafa tournament in South Africa next month.

He has also named another squad that will take on Swaziland in the Under-23 African Championship qualifiers in Harare — the same weekend Zimbabwe will clash against Namibia in their second match of the Cosafa Cup on May 21 in Moruleng, South Africa.
