Training with train with a depleted squad ... Kalisto Pasuwa

NATIONAL Under-23 coach Callisto Pasuwa has again complained about clubs refusing to release players for national duty ahead of Sunday’s African Under-23 Championship second round, first leg against Swaziland at Rufaro Stadium.

Just like in the All-Africa Games qualifiers, clubs are declining to release players for the Young Warriors citing need to use them in the weekend’s league games.

Dynamos have held on to goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva and defender Blessing Moyo while Chicken Inn are demanding back Tafadzwa Kutinyu and Lawrence Mhlanga.

FC Platinum are not keen to release Walter Musona.

“I am in that situation once again. It is not a pleasant scenario when you train with a depleted squad or you have clubs calling you demanding back their players,” Pasuwa said.

“The whole thing disrupts your programme. I am battling to convince clubs to allow me work with their players.

“I hope they will understand but we have lost some days of training with all the players.

“I understand that some clubs need players for crucial games but this is a national team game and we have to unite.”

Pasuwa’s predicament has been worsened by the fact that Vice-captain Ronald Pfumbidzai is undergoing trials at Danish top-flight league side Hobro IK.
