DYNAMOS have slated Chapungu for denying them the use of striker Cuthbert Malajila for last Sunday’s African Champions League clash with Botswana’s Gaberone United.
Malajila was set to play until a last minute demand by Chapungu for the full settlement of an outstanding US$24,000 from the player’s transfer.
On Monday, ZIFA said it was inviting both Dynamos and Chapungu to a meeting to try and resolve the dispute which threteans to wreck Malajila’s career.
Dynamos chairman Farai Munetsi said they were prepared to let go of the player because they could not pay the money demanded by the Air Force team.
He said: “We cannot afford that amount. It's outrageous. We have 30 players and we are still to settle the transfer fees for most of them. We can do without him. There are other players. Life will go on.
"It is the principle of demanding such huge sums of money when just before such a crucial match we are saying we cannot accept. They can take him elsewhere because we cannot afford that amount.”
Dynamos beat Gaberone United 4-1 in the first leg of their second round match by should they reach the mini-league phase, they know they will desperately need Malajila’s services – their top scorer last season with 19 goals.
It is not the first time Chapungu have withdrawn Malajila just before an important match. Last month, they ordered him to to travel with Dynamos for a first round clash with the DRC’s FC Lupopo.
The player only travelled after political pressure by Dynamos fan and Information Minister Webster Shamu. He went on to score the only goal as Dynamos took charge of the fixture.
