Thomas Sweswe joins ZPC Kariba

THOMAS Sweswe is confident he will bring back his old steely self for his new club ZPC Kariba after a lengthy period out of the playing field.

Sweswe was recently pardoned by Zifa from the Asia gate match-fixing scandal before signing for ZPC Kariba who are struggling this season.

The presence of Sunday Chidzambwa as ZPC Kariba coach lured Sweswe as the two worked together before in the senior national team where they claimed the 2009 Cosafa Cup.

After being released by Wits University in South Africa, Sweswe struggled to find a decent home.

He last played in Zimbabwe for Dynamos before signing for Kaizer Chiefs in 2009.

Now having been handed the green light to work in Zimbabwe, the defender who turns 34 next month feels he has so much to contribute into the domestic league.

“It is good to be back. It’s now a few days since I started training with ZPC Kariba and they are a good club,” Sweswe said.

“It is also good to be reunited with Mhofu (Chidzambwa). He is a coach who can get the best out of a player.

“I have confidence in him and that makes me also confident that I still have a lot to offer to the local game. I still feel it in my legs that I can play very well like I used to.”

If last season’s Soccer Star of the year Dennis Dauda does not move to South Africa, it would not be a straight march into the first team for Sweswe who would also have to contend against veteran George Magariro and Ghanaian Sylvester Appiah at centre back position.
