FC Platinum edge battling Ngezi to claim top spot

INFORM FC Platinum laboured to a 1-0 victory over a battling Ngezi Platinum in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at the Boabab Stadium on Monday to dislodge Caps United from the top of the table.

At Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane, Border Strikers fell 1-0 to visiting Mutare City courtesy of a strike by Sam Musimbo.

Caps United enjoyed top spot for just 24 hours after edging city rivals Dynamos 1-0 in the Harare derby at Rufaro on Sunday courtesy of a strike by Dominic Chungwa.

But the Harare giants were dislodged on Monday by the impressive FC Platinum who have won all four matches since the start of the campaign. They have beaten Tsholotsho, Highlanders, Chapungu and Ngezi Platinum.

Caps United have won three and drawn one in the four matches they have played in this campaign so far with their biggest victory coming in a three nil defeat of Air force side, Chapungu. They are now in second place with nine points-one behind leaders FC Platinum.

The Green Machine is the other team that is still unbeaten in the league thus far and their performance on Sunday gave a glimpse of what to expect from them this season. Their victory over Dynamos was their first since 2009 when a Nyasha Mushekwi double helped them to a comfortable 2-0 win.

Crucially, it helped them enjoy top spot on the league table though temporarily.
