DISAPOINTED CAPS United fans called for coach Lloyd Chietembwe’s head after the Harare side were beaten 3-2 by Monomotapa in a league match played at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

The disgruntled fans gathered outside the stadium after the match singing and dancing to express their displeasure at the club’s recent run of poor results.

No comment could be obtained from CAPS United President Twine Phiri who did not watch the match.

The set-back against Monomotapa came a week after CAPS were comprehensively thumped 5-0 by Sudanese side Al Hilal in a CAF Confederations Cup third round first leg tie played in Khartoum.

The result means CAPS may need nothing short of a miracle to overturn the deficit and revive their continental aspirations when they host the Sudanese side at the end of the month.

And on Saturday Monomotapa were happy to pile on the misery after coming from behind to emerge 3-2 victors over Chitembwe's men.

Goals from Daniel Kamunenga, substitute Joseph Mutambiranwa and Osborne Mukuradare helped Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe’s charges collect the maximum points.

But it was CAPS United who raced into the lead with midfielder Marvel Samaneka inking his name on the score sheet two minutes into the game after he was set up by former Highlanders striker Joel Luphahla who was making his debut for United.

Luphahla, easily the man of the match, put up a brilliant show in midfield with incisive passes that gave CAPS hope in a match they could have at least drawn had they not wasted a couple of chances.

Monoz replied through Kamunenga who was set up by Tendai Samanja in the 14th minute and obliged by blasting a shot onto the under side of the upright post which then found its way into the nets.

In the second half CAPS went ahead again on 69 minutes through Frank Adu who tapped the ball home after receiving a pass from substitute Last Chibwiro.

However, as the two teams traded attacks, Mutambiranwa connected a cross from the left by Ocean Mushure to give Monoz their equaliser.

Mukuradare then settled matters for the day when he breached United's defence before lobbying the ball over a drawn out Edmore Sibanda in goals for the Green Machine.

Angry United fans shouted outside the Stadium that they had had enough but Chitembwe will feel he needs time to re-build a side that has just lost six key players to the South African premiership.

The club sold Method Mwanjali, Lionel Mtizwa and Nyasha Mushekwi to Mamelodi Sundowns while Khama Billiart and Tafadzwa Rusike joined Ajax Cape Town.

Oscar Machapa also left to join Moroka Swallows.
