FORMER Highlanders chairman Kennedy Ndebele has been appointed as the CEO of the Premier Soccer League with immediate effect.

PSL chairman Twine Phiri made the announcement Tuesday after a meeting with Ndebele.

Phiri said: "I consulted with chairmen of the 16 Premier League clubs and we came to the decision to appoint Ndebele.”

The PSL has not had a CEO since Chris Sambo quit in 2006.

The cash-strapped league is close to finalising terms of a sponsorship deal with mobile phone operator, NetOne.

Ndebele was Highlanders secretary for two years, becoming the club’s chairman in 2006.

He left the club to become secretary general of the PSL in 2008 before resigning last year, citing differences with then league boss Tapiwa Matangaidze.
