FORMER Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari is on the verge of signing for Blackburn Rovers.
The 31-year-old Zimbabwe captain has been training with City's neighbours this week, and hopes to finalise the move before the season kick-offs on Saturday when Rovers host Everton.
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is a huge admirer of the striker and his medical team has been making an assessment of the player who will arrive on a free transfer after being released by City in July.
Mwaruwari’s wages are likely to be fairly high, but the money saved from the transfer fee could compensate.
Allardyce first attempted to bring Benjani to Blackburn in January this year but the striker went on six months-long loan to Sunderland where his appearances were limited to just eight.
Benjani joined Portsmouth in 2004 from French club Auxerre. He joined Manchester City in 2008 – his most successful season in which he scored 14 Premier League goals.
