Mutare City explain use of suspended striker Gurure, claim they were not aware of the ban

Letter adressed to him ... PSL's Kennedy Ndebele

MUTARE City Rovers who are in trouble for using an ineligible striker Kudakwashe Gurure in their last weekend’s one all stalemate against FC Platinum, have defended their decision to field the player.

Gurure picked three yellow cards in previous matches against Border Strikers, Chapungu and Tsholotsho respectively and Mutare City risk having their points docked for using him in their last clash.

In a letter addressed to PSL Chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele, Mutare’s secretary general, Saul Tomu, said the club was not aware that the player had been suspended.

“Please be advised that the club was not aware that Kudakwashe Gurure had been suspended. The issue only came to our attention through the above letter. You should note that vour intersol server was down for the better part of last week and we were relying on the PSL official website,” reads the letter.

“You will note the website on the 11th of August at 11: 21 am only mentioned three players on suspension. Find attached a print out of the official page. The same list is the one which also appeared in the local newspaper The H Metro of Friday 12th of August prior to our game. This is the information we were relying on when we played against FC Platinum at Mandava,” added the letter.

Gurure was amongst four suspended four players on match19 but the list had Hardlife Zvirekwi (Caps United) Kudzanai Kwashi (Border Strikers) and Xolisani Moyo (Bulawayo City).

Gurure has been one of the most outstanding players in Mutare’s bid to survive the dreaded chop. On Sunday, “Gusha Bhora”, as they are affectively known by their legions of fans, lock horns with Hwange at Sakubva Stadium.
