Dynamos 1-0 FC Victoria

DYNAMOS moved within a point of league leaders Motor Action after Guthrie Zhokinyu’s 25th minute penalty helped them past a battling FC Victoria at Rufaro on Wednesday.

Midfielder Eddie Mashiri tumbled in the box under the challenge of the visitors’ centre back, Partson Sinamai, to earn his team a penalty which proved the difference between the two teams.

The win lifted Dynamos to 28 points, one less than the Mighty Bulls, but with the advantage of a game in hand.

The win also ended a lean spell for them after Motor Action inflicted their first defeat, a 2-1 loss, before they drew 0-0 with Kiglon in their next league match.

Having seen his team register their first Champions League win over Entente Setif of Algeria on Sunday, coach Elvis Chiweshe was back in favour with the Dynamos fans who have been baying for his blood.

The coach rested a few players from Sunday’s match, and surprise starter Lloyd Hlahla warmed the hands of Victoria shot stopper Dzingai Murinye early on.

Although Dynamos controlled the match, the league debutants showed little respect for their more illustrious opponents as they threatened with some fine raids.

Victoria frontman Lameck Nhamo missed a sitter on 17 minutes after doing well when he beat two Dynamos defenders and burst into the penalty area where the attentions of goalkeeper Washington Arubi appeared to unnerve him and he shot just wide from three yards.
