FORMER Shabanie Mine and How Mine coach Luke ‘Vahombe’ Masomere has been appointed coach of relegation candidates and bottom side Border Strikers.

Sstung by the team's stuttering form, Border Strikers officials, recently parted ways with long-serving coach Never Malunga following a spate of dreadful results.

Malunga had presided over the team after he was thrown into the deep end following the sacking of former coach Saul Chaminuka in June this year.

Chaminuka had signed a three-year contract in early February but the team struggled for fluency under his watch, culminating in the club elevating Malunga to the hot seat.

Malunga is credited lifting the team into the top flight league where he went on to deputise Chaminuka.

However, Malunga was on Tuesday given the boot by the club hierarchy following a string of poor results although it was the defeat to fellow relegation strugglers Tsholotsho at the weekend which became the final straw.

Malunga's critics say he was technically bankrupt and often lost towards the end of the match something which did not go down with the Beitbridge community which has been baying for his blood.

Masomere, unattached since he left How Mine, has been tasked to save the team from relegation.

Border Strikers remain at the bottom of the league table with only seven matches remaining in the campaign. And Masomere will need a miracle to save the team from relegation.
