LEAGUE pacesetters Motor Action extended their lead at the summit of the Premier League following a 1-0 win over CAPS United at Motor Action Sports Club on Wednesday.

William Kupera struck the only goal on 21 minutes to pile pressure on under-fire coach Lloyd Chitembwe.

The win lifted Joey Antipas’ men four points clear of Dynamos who are away in Algeria ahead of Friday’s Champions League clash with Entente Setif.

Motor Action’s stunning 'Bull Run' means they have beaten all the so-called big three this season – Dynamos, Highlanders and United.

The Mighty Bulls settled early, Enasio Perezo coming close after 17 minutes before Kupera thrust them in the lead with a simple tap in following a nice move involving Charles Sibanda and Allan Gahadzikwa.

The goal led to more Motor Action domination as Chitembwe’s strugglers easily gave away possession and posed little threat going forward.

United's real chance in the first half came on the stroke of halftime when Pride Tafirenyika whipped in a cross but Courage Denias reacted slowly allowing Motor Action to clear.

Chitembwe made changes after the breather, Vincent Nzombe making way for Joel Luphala and Ghanian Ebabali Yves replacing Tafirenyika.

The move almost paid dividends as United seized the initiative for the first time in the contest.

United had an appeal for a penalty turned down after the ball struck Milton Ncube on his hand on the hour mark. Referee Batsirai Muchenje -- who was nearly manhandled by angry CAPS United fans at the end of the first half – indicated it was ball-to-hand.

Mighty Bulls coach Joey Antipas credited his defence for preserving their advantage.

He said after the match: “CAPS gave us a good run in the second half. I want to give credit to our defence. They were outstanding.

“It’s still too early to talk about the championship. We have to avoid getting carried away at this stage and keep working hard.”

Chitembwe said he was happy with the progress his team was making after losing six players to the South African Premier League.

The United legend said: "It's difficult for the team to gel after we lost those players to South Africa, but we are making progress.

“We are still experimenting with the team even though we know these games are important for us because we have to look into the future. The focus is on coming up with a formidable side at the end of the season.

“I am not worried by what supporters say, but from a technical point of view I am happy with the progress.”
