SECOND seeds Cara Black and her Indian partner Leander Paes crashed out of the US Open mixed doubles quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Paes and Black, the 2008 champions, lost 3-6, 4-6 to Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas.

Paes is already out of the men's doubles race. Paes and Czech Lukas Dlouhy, the defending men's doubles champions, bowed out in the first round.

While Paes packs his bags, Black can still fight for glory after her women’s doubles partnership with Australia’s Anastasia Rodionova reached the quarter finals on Monday.

The pair, seeded ninth, were due on court later Tuesday for a last sixteen duel against 14th seeds Elena Vesnina and Vera Zvonareva of Russia.
