BULAWAYO giants Highlanders got off to an explosive start with a 2-0 victory over Bulawayo City in a derby at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Prince Dube fired Bosso in the lead on 57 minutes before Simon Munawa's 65th minute goal sealed victory for Erol Akbay's men.

Highlanders finished in third place behind eventual champions Caps United and runners up FC Platinum last term and are looking to make amends this time around.

At Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane, Caps United's title defence suffered a major reversal after they were held by newly promoted Shabanie Mine to a 0-0 draw.

The Green Machine, who have qualified for the money spinning group stage of the African Champions League for the first time in their history following a victory over five time African Champions TP Mazembe, went into the match seeking a positive start in their bid to defend the title they won for the first time since winning back to back titles in 2004 and 2005.

However, they found the going tough against Shabanie as they managed to pick just a point in the drab draw.
