DYNAMOS reclaimed pole after they were briefly dethroned by Gunners following a battling 1-0 victory over Bantu Rovers at Barbourfields on Sunday.
Wonder Sithole struck 18 minutes before the end to subdue Rovers who had not lost in four games.
The victory was crucial for the Harare club after both Lengthens and Gunners climbed over them following identical 1-0 wins over Highlanders and Eagles respectively.
Obadiah Tarumbwa twice came close for Rovers in the first half but was foiled by goalkeeper Ephraim Mazarura.
With the Dynamos strike force led by Cuthberth Malajila and Gilbert Zulu well marked, Rovers must have fancied their chances but for one sweeping move involving four Dynamos players.
Substitute Lloyd Hlahla triggered the assault on the right deep inside the Rovers half, moving the ball swiftly to Eddie Mashiri who arrowed a cross in the direction of an advanced Malajila.
The former Highlanders striker missed his chance and the ball fell invitingly for Sithole who beat Washington Arubi at close range.
At Rufaro, Leonard Tsipa struck four minutes before the half hour as CAPS United beat Highway 1-0.
Highway are reeling after coach Lloyd Mutasa quit last week along with his assistant, Callisto Pasuwa. The Mutare-based premiership debutants have made Shepherd Muradzikwa their caretaker coach.
At Gwanzura, champions Monomotapa finally came good as they beat Shooting Stars 2-0. Asani Nhongo and Daniel Zokoto scored in the first half to secure the important win which lifts them to eighth in the table, 10 points behind Dynamos.
On Saturday, Gunners topped the league after Norman Maroto’s solitary strike gave them a 1-0 win over Eagles at Rudhaka.
At Rufaro, Last Chibwiro’s 14th minute strike earned Lengthens victory over Madinda Ndlovu’s goal-shy Highlanders.
Ndlovu was furious over the goal that sank them, calling it “silly” and isolating one of his senior players for criticism.
He blasted: “We conceded a silly goal and the mistake was committed by a senior player (Gift Lunga Jnr) who did not pivot and allowed an opponent to score from the blind side."
Njube Sundowns finally rediscovered their scoring boots with a thumping 4-1 victory over Black Rhinos at Gwanzura.
After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Sundowns’ returning hitman Evans Chikwaikwai opened the floodgates before further strikes by Dylan Chivandire, Thabani Kamusoko and Heritani Masuku secured their first win since April.
