ZIMBABWE revived their hopes of making it into the quarter finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) underway in Sudan after pulling off a shock 1-0 win over defending champions Ghana at Stade Wad Madani on Wednesday.

Archford Gutu’s goal in the 75th minute was enough to seal victory for the Warriors’ throwing the more fancied Ghanaian side out of the tournament having failed to win in their first two group games.

Gutu’s goal was a well taken header after some good work on the left wing, which caught the Ghana defence in sixes and sevens.

Madinda Ndlovu’s charges are now tied on three points with Niger who lost to South Africa in the other Group B game.  South Africa top the group with six points while Ghana are now at the bottom.

The Warriors lost their opening match to Niger but are now back in contention for a berth in the last eight.

Zimbabwe will take on South Africa while Ghana face Niger in the last Group B games on Sunday.

Group winners and the runners up will qualify for the quarter finals of the tournament which is restricted to players plying their trade in their home countries.
