PORTSMOUTH striker Benjani Mwaruwari has been outlining plans for a testimonial match to mark his retirement from international football.

The former Zimbabwe captain was in Harare on Monday where he held separate talks with ZIFA president Cuthbert Dube, CEO Jonathan Mashingaidze and potential sponsors.

The 32-year-old is planning the testimonial for May 26 – and he has secured promises from nearly two dozen English Premier League stars who are set to visit Zimbabwe for the first time.

Mwaruwari has also called on some of Africa’s biggest names including Nigeria’s Jay Jay Okocha, South African legend Lucas Radebe and Zimbabwe’s own Peter Ndlovu to make cameo appearances.

Mashingaidze said more details about the testimonial – set for the National Sports Stadium – would be revealed at a media conference on Tuesday.

"We had a successful meeting with Benjani. It was basically about that testimonial match. We will confirm more details on Tuesday,” said Mashingaidze.

Mwaruwari retired from international football in October 2010, a day after the Zimbabwe drew 0-0 with Cape Verde at the National Sports Stadium in their doomed campaign to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
