Number One ... Cara Black

RELATED STORIES

TENNIS ace Cara Black capped a weekend of sporting history for Zimbabwe when she became only the second woman in history to reach as many as 125 consecutive weeks as the highest ranked doubles player after the great Martina Navratilova.

She rose to number one player in the tennis doubles with American partner Liezel Huber on November 12, 2007, and 20 months later, they are still at the top.

Black and Huber can remain there much longer if they continue with their winning ways and perform better than last year in the forthcoming US Open.

But it could be years before she breaks the astonishing record of 237 weeks.

Black’s extra-ordinary accomplishment followed Saturday’s heroics by swimmer Kirsty Coventry at the Rome world swimming championships where she won gold in the 200m backstroke.

In winning, Coventry broke her own record set at the Beijing Olympics last year.

Top Six Number Ones
1-Martina Navratilova 237 weeks
2-Cara Black 125
3-Natasha Zvereva 124
4-Lisa Raymond 117
5-Arantxa Sanhchez Vicario 111
6-Liezel Huber 89

While Mugabe makes me ashamed to be a Zimbabwean, Cara you make us all proud to be Zimbabweans. Thanks sister. I hope ZANU PF and Mugabe will not come up with Tennis reform programme to "reverse the colonial legacy". You work hard to maintain this performance and so did the white commercial farmers. Unfortunately for them land was easily takeable but talent and hardwork just leave the Bonas and Graces green with envy. Well done sweetie.

Most black Zimbabweans have no issues with white people who don't exhibit racial tendencies. However, we have quite a buch of whites who believe blacks know nothing and can't achieve anything because of their skin pigmentation. As blacks we have issues there and that's why we went to war in order to restore our dignity as human beings first and foremost. Also, there are some whites who "weep more than the bereaved" on issues in our politics. Yesterday, under Ian Smith, they refused majority rule, and enjoyed all human rights, whites only freedom and refused to share the good farming land. They never talked about trying Ian Smith for crimes against humanity. Today they want to teach us democracy and human rights. Why not let us deal with all those issues in our own way because we brought that opportunity into our way of life ourselves through the war of liberation? Whites failed to deal with all those fundamental issues when they had the chance. Now is our time. Well done Cara!
