THE Premier Soccer League has cancelled five fixtures lined for Saturday to avoid disadvantaging teams which have players on national duty.

Only teams with at least three or more players on national team business have been previously exempt from fulfilling their fixtures.

But PSL bosses are concerned with the impact losing at least two of your best players – as is the case with Motor Action who were due to face Hardbody in Gweru – can have on a team’s fortunes.

PSL secretary general Kenny Ndebele said staging domestic football matches while the national team was preparing to play could also have a disruptive effect.

“We trust that the postponement will allow the national team to prepare for the crucial match without disruptions,” he said in a letter to clubs.

Zimbabwe play Guinea at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.
