Monomotapa 2-0 FC Platinum; Black Mambas 2-0 Gunners
QADR Amini’s own goal and a second half strike by Makai Kawashu dented FC Platinum’s title challenge on Saturday, while confirming Monomotapa’s own growing ambitions.
Rahman Gumbo’s Platinum could have drawn level with leaders Highlanders with a win, but they came unstuck after Amini volleyed past his own goalkeeper while attempting to clear before a sparse crowd at Gwanzura.
With Platinum pushed up in search of an equaliser, Monomotapa hit them on the counter as Kawashu stole in to secure the win.
Across town at Morris Depot, Black Mambas eased their relegation worries with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Gunners.
Honey Chimutimunzeve and Nicholas Alifandaka were both on target as the police side broke free from the relegation jail, perhaps boosted by a change of guard in the coaching department with John Toto replacing Moses Chunga last Thursday.
The win lifted Mambas to 13 points – three clear of the relegation pack, and a point behind Gunners who stay 11th.
Highlanders, who lead the table with 24 points, face giant killers Harare City at Barbourfields on Sunday while their closest pursuers Shabanie Mine host Chicken Inn at Maglas.
