FC PLATINUM say they will make an announcement on the future of Rahman Gumbo after the league match with Hardbody at Mandava on Wednesday.

Gumbo’s future at the ambitious Zvishavane club was thrown in doubt on Saturday after they lost 2-0 away to Monomotapa, leaving them four points off the pace and potentially seven if leaders Highlanders win their outstanding game.

FC Platinum president Nathan Shoko said the technical team and management committee were due to hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday night, but refused to say whether Gumbo would stay beyond Wednesday.

Club spokesman Phil Muvengwa confirmed the club would issue a statement on Wednesday – suggesting Gumbo’s future could be decided by the outcome of their match with the Gweru side.

Club sources say some members of the management committee would like to see one of Gumbo’s assistants, Tendai Chikuni, put in interim charge, but Shoko has resisted changes insisting there is no crisis as they are still within touching distance of the leaders.

The defeat to Monomotapa left Platinum lying third in the Premier League with 21 points from 12 games. They have won six, drawn three and suffered three defeats.

Under Gumbo, the Mimosa Platinum Mine-backed side bagged two domestic cups – the Bob 88 Cup and the Independence Cup, but they were knocked out of the CAF Champions League in the first round by El Merreikh of Sudan.

Last season, they finished runners-up to eventual champions Dynamos who edged it on goal difference.

Gumbo won league titles with Highlanders in 1999 and 2000 before he migrated to Malawi where he won the championship with MTL Wanderers. He left them for Township Rollers in Botswana where he again won the league in 2010 before joining Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

He left Botswana mid-way last year to replace Benjamin Moyo, who died suddenly after drowning in a swimming pool at the team's camping retreat in Shurugwi.
