A total of 24 people died and over were 30 injured after an Urban Connect bus rammed into a truck near Lutumba tollgate along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway Thursday morning.
The accident took place around 7am and the bus was Beitbridge bound.
Eyewitnesses said the bus driver was speeding and overtaking another vehicle when the bus got involved in a head-on collision with the truck.
17 people died on the spot while seven others died upon admission at Beitbridge Hospital.
Beitbridge District Medical Officer Lenos Samhere told State-controlled media that of those admitted, 12 were in critical condition.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said they will be issuing a comprehensive statement soon.
