Afcon finals: Warriors can shock Africa, says coach

WARRIORS assistant coach Saul Chaminuka says his men will shock Africa by winning the African Cup of Nations for the first time in history.
Chaminuka, who is assistant to head coach Kalisto Pasuwa took charge of the Warriors’ training session on Wednesday as his boss was in Ivory Coast where he had gone for an international friendly against the hosts with only home based players.
The international friendly ended goal-less.
Chaminuka did not have a full house at training as some of the foreign-based stars had not yet arrived from their bases.
He had 14 players at training with Belgium based forward Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat who plays for newly crowned African champions Mamelodi Sundowns and China-based Nyasha Mushekwi only expected in Harare on Thursday.
Pasuwa and the local boys who went to Ivory Coast are also expected to link up with the rest of the team on Thursday.
But Chaminuka believes the two-week period left before the tournament is enough for them to go and make a mark in Africa.
“I am happy with the attitude of the players. What I have seen from these guys is that they are hard workers,” he said.
“I can assure you they are going to astonish Zimbabwe and Africa.
“Our preparations have started in earnest and we will play two friendly matches against Cameroon and a club in Cameroon. We are going to give it our best.”
Zimbabwe have never gone beyond the group stages in two attempts at the biennial soccer showcase in2004 and 2006.
The Warriors were drawn in Group B alongside Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia.Advertisement
