HIGHLANDERS striker Thomas Chideu and Hwange forward Evans Rusike are in South Africa undergoing trials with Cape Town Ajax and Maritzburg United respectively.
The pair left the country at the weekend to attend the trials as South African clubs, who are on an off-season break, start their pre-season preparations.
Rusike’s manager Edzai Kasinauyo confirmed that the Hwange striker was at Maritzburg.
“I can confirm that Rusike is on trials with Maritzburg. He will be attached for a 10 day period and I am confident he can make the grade,” said Kasinauyo.
Gibson Mahachi who manages Chideu could not be reached for comment.
The pair was part of the squad that beat Comoros 2-0 in the first leg of the African Nations Championships (Chan) qualifier at Rufaro Stadium a week ago with Rusike, last year’s Soccer Star of the Year finalist, scoring the first goal.
The pair will miss the trip to the Comoros for the return leg of the Chan qualifier against the hosts on Saturday.
The Warriors carry a 2-0 lead from the first leg and need a draw to qualify. Pasuwa’s men can even afford to lose 1-0 and still advance to the next round.Advertisement
