A security aide to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s convoy died in a car crash Friday while four other security details were left seriously injured.
The First Lady is reported to be safe.
However, Nick Mangwana, the Information Ministry secretary said he was not aware of the accident.
“I am not aware of that incident so I cannot confirm, I am in the dark,” Mangwana told NewZimbabwe.com Friday.
According to sources, the accident happened in Muzarabani district in Mashonaland Central province where Mnangagwa was on her way to donate groceries to vulnerable villagers in the district through her charity organisation Angels of Hope.
The Toyota Hilux with the aides is reported to have veered off the road at Mavhuradonha Mountain Range and rolled down a steep, rocky embankment before coming to a stop against a tree.
An Air Force of Zimbabwe helicopter came to airlift the injured to Harare. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Zimbabwe last month, the First Lady has been travelling across the country donating goods to vulnerable families.
